Community Specialist

  • Location: Hybrid – Visiting Bristol/Oxford Offices 1-2x per month)
  • Working Period: Full time
  • Reports to: Social Media and Content Manager
  • Salary: £35,000 - £37,000

As a Community Specialist, you will embody Yugo’s mission of helping students “Live their Best Life.” This role focuses on building bridges—between global and local teams, students and teams, and online and offline communities. You’ll champion authentic storytelling, empower on-the-ground teams, and bring our community voice to life across multiple touchpoints.

 

Your mission: to boost engagement, curate and amplify stories, and create thriving communities that not only attract students but also nurture retention and renewals.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Boost Internal Engagement
  • Empower on-the-ground site teams to share authentic content and champion the brand.
  • Provide clear toolkits, direction, and guidance to simplify their storytelling process.
  • Build Community
  • Engage directly with students and teams to grow vibrant social communities, both online and offline.
  • Champion Yugo as an active voice in the wider student housing conversation — from celebrating resident moments to engaging playfully with competitors and brands (taking inspiration from community-led approaches like Duolingo or Ryanair).
  • Support initiatives that foster belonging, strengthen retention, and drive renewals through meaningful connections.
  • Curate & Amplify Content
  • Source, edit, and repurpose content from sites and student experiences.
  • Ensure all content reflects Yugo’s tone of voice and global social strategy.
  • Training & Enablement
  • Deliver training sessions and workshops for global and local teams on content creation, tone of voice, and social best practices.
  • Develop easy-to-use resources that help site teams feel confident in their role as storytellers.
  • Bridge Insights
  • Monitor conversations and feedback from students and teams.
  • Share real-time insights with the social team to inform campaigns, content, and community strategies.
  • Influencer Recruitment/Management Support
  • Support the identification, recruitment, and management of local student creators and influencers.
  • Assist with contracts, briefs, and content approvals to ensure smooth partnerships.

 

Key Performance Indicators

  1. Increased internal content contributions from site teams.
  2. Growth in online and offline community engagement.
  3. Consistent use of Yugo tone of voice and brand in repurposed content.
  4. Positive feedback from training sessions and improved local execution.
  5. Delivery of actionable insights that influence social campaigns and strategy.

Qualifications

Experience and Knowledge
Essential:

  • Degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in community management, student engagement, or social media.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with an understanding of youth culture and Gen Z communities.
  • Ability to design and deliver training sessions or workshops.
  • Proficiency with digital tools such as Canva, Sprout Social, or similar platforms.

Desirable:

  • Experience working in student housing, higher education, or youth-focused brands
  • Familiarity with influencer outreach or management
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, global environment with multiple stakeholders
  • Multilingual abilities – particularly in Spanish, French, or German – are highly valued to support collaboration across Yugo’s global markets.
